Clean Punjab Initiative: District-Level Control and Digital Fee System Planned

Lahore: The Punjab government has transferred administrative powers from the divisional level to the district level to further strengthen the sanitation system. According to Provincial Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique, the aim of this move is to improve monitoring and make sanitation measures effective at the practical level.

He said that now the deputy commissioners and officers of the Clean Punjab Authority will be responsible for ensuring that the government instructions related to sanitation are fully implemented. He said that the province has the largest sanitation system in the country, which is the need of the hour to make it self-sufficient.

During the meeting, it was also informed that the sanitation fee collected in urban and rural areas has been fixed keeping in mind the public convenience and soon the payment system will be completely digitalized to ensure transparency and timely payment.

Provincial Secretary for Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian said that the staff of the dissolved waste management companies will be included in the Clean Punjab Authority, while the surveys conducted to determine the sanitation fee have almost been completed.

According to Governance Expert Analyst Nasir Mahmood, decentralization and implementation of digital systems can significantly improve transparency and accountability in the sanitation system.
