Karachi: The Pakistan Stock Exchange witnessed a significant bullishness during trading on Friday, as a result of which the most important benchmark KSE-100 index closed at 170,884.59 with an increase of 1,841 points.
The KSE-100 index started the trading day at 169,399.99 points. During the session, the index touched a high of 171,036.72 points, while the low was recorded at 169,399.99 points.
The index closed up 1.09 percent. The index had a significant volume of 165.82 million shares, according to available market data.
The overall direction of the market was supported by buying in shares of some prominent companies. FFC contributed 225.28 points to the significant increase in KSE-100, UBL 207.49 points, MEBL 142.03 points, LUCK 141.17 points and HBL 117.24 points.
On the other hand, shares of PSFL, SRVI, NESTLE, GHNI and AICL had a negative impact on the index. The negative point contribution of these companies was 30.20, 24.35, 14.13, 11.57 and 9.02 points respectively.
Meanwhile, the KMI-30 index also showed positive performance. The index opened at 241,159.31 points and reached a high of 243,537.38 during the day. At the close of business, the KMI-30 closed at 243,139.25 points, up 2,522.69 points or 1.05 percent from its previous level.
FFC was the biggest positive contributor to the KMI-30 with 433.85 points. MEBL contributed 404.66, LUCK 402.21, PPL 222.72 while ENGROH contributed 148.08 points.
GHNI was the top detractor of the KMI-30, shedding 32.97 points. This was followed by ATRL with a negative contribution of 19.58, GAL with 8.16, PRL with 3.45 and NRL with 1.22 points.
According to market data, the year-to-date performance of KMI-30 was negative 5.51% and negative 2.17% on a calendar year basis. The corresponding FYTD performance for KSE-100 was recorded at negative 5.22% and CYTD performance was negative 1.82%.
