It should be noted that the latest report available lists the price of diesel as 364 rupees 70 paise, not 346 rupees 70 paise. Therefore, the correct official price has been given priority in the news.

The recent decision has led to a slight increase in the price of petrol. On the contrary, the price of diesel has been increased relatively more. However, the prices of both products are changing daily under the new review procedure.

The government has adopted a daily price review method to pass on the impact of fluctuations in the global oil market to consumers. Under this system, changes in international prices can be incorporated into local prices relatively quickly.

A day earlier, the government had increased petrol by Rs 2.97 per litre. However, the price of high-speed diesel was significantly reduced by Rs 32.63. After this decision, petrol was fixed at Rs 337.51 per litre and diesel at Rs 363.60 per litre for August 20.

After the fresh increase, the price of diesel has recovered a small part of the previous day’s big decline. Petrol prices have also continued to increase slightly for the second consecutive day.

Fluctuations in petrol prices are directly linked to the travel expenses of citizens. The price of diesel can also affect the cost of transport, agricultural machinery and freight.

Pakistan depends on imports for a large part of its energy needs. Therefore, global crude oil prices, freight costs and the value of the rupee are important factors for local prices.

The government’s daily price revision system is important in such an environment. It allows global market changes to be transmitted to local rates more quickly. However, this approach can also expose consumers to frequent price changes.

Recent data shows that fuel prices remain volatile. In the coming days, the direction of the global market and import costs will play a significant role in determining local prices.
