Islamabad: The growth rate estimate of Pakistan’s economy for the last fiscal year has been reduced. The National Accounts Committee has reduced the GDP growth rate for the fiscal year 2025-26 from 3.70 percent to 3.65 percent.

The revised figures were approved in the 118th meeting of the National Accounts Committee on October 19, which was chaired by the Secretary Ministry of Planning. The meeting reviewed the annual and quarterly national accounts.

After the revision, the size of the country’s economy decreased to $450.4 billion, while earlier this estimate was $452.1 billion. Thus, a decrease of $1.7 billion was recorded in the size of the economy. During the same period, the estimate of per capita annual income also decreased from $1,901 to $1,896.

Various trends emerged in the sector-wise data. The revised estimate of the growth rate of the agriculture sector was 3.50 percent, which was earlier 2.89 percent. In contrast, the growth rate of the industrial sector declined from 3.51 percent to 3.34 percent, while the growth rate of the services sector was estimated to have decreased from 4.09 percent to 3.81 percent.

According to the new estimates of the national accounts, the growth rate of the economy in the last quarter of the financial year 2025-26 was 2 percent. The revised figures for the first three quarters are 3.89 percent, 4.31 percent and 4.42 percent, respectively. The relatively slow pace of the last quarter also affected the overall estimate of the annual growth rate.

The committee has also revised the economic growth rate for the financial year 2024-25. The growth rate for this period has decreased to 3.11 percent from the previous estimate of 3.18 percent.

The revision of the national accounts data is done on the basis of fresh data from various sectors and new information on economic activities. These changes provide a more up-to-date estimate of the overall performance of the economy, but trends in output, investment, employment and per capita income must also be taken into account to fully assess the economic situation.
