Pakistani Tech Executive Calls for AI Oversight Instead of Shutdown

Pakistani Tech Executive Calls for AI Oversight Instead of Shutdown

KARACHI: A Pakistani technology executive has called for stronger oversight and control of artificial intelligence rather than shutting down AI systems, arguing that potential risks should be addressed through mechanisms capable of intervening when problems arise.

Uzair Ahmed, associated with Karachi-based MS TECH IT (Pvt.) Ltd, said in a statement published on social media on September 24 that concerns about uncontrolled artificial intelligence should not lead to abandoning the technology.

Ahmed said he has developed a technology intended to prevent AI systems from causing harm and claimed that potentially harmful actions could be stopped safely within 20 seconds. He described the 20-second figure as his own claim about the capability of his approach.

The technical details of the technology have not been publicly disclosed, and there is currently no independent verification available for the claimed response time or the broader assertion that the system could prevent harmful actions across different AI systems.

“Some say we should shut AI down. I say there’s no need,” Ahmed said in his statement, adding that his proposed approach is intended to allow AI to remain useful while keeping potential risks under control.

The comments come as AI safety remains a subject of discussion among technology companies, researchers and policymakers, particularly around the question of how much human oversight should remain over increasingly capable AI systems.

Ahmed’s position focuses on intervention and oversight rather than stopping the development or use of artificial intelligence. He said the objective should be to retain the potential benefits of AI while having mechanisms that can respond quickly if an AI system begins moving towards a harmful outcome.

MS TECH IT’s website describes the Karachi-based company as a software and AI technology firm working on autonomous AI sales agents, enterprise software, mobile applications, cloud SaaS platforms and AI workflow automation.

The company’s public LinkedIn profile also describes it as an IT services and software company offering AI, web development, mobile applications, digital marketing and other technology services.

Ahmed’s proposal remains at the level of a publicly stated claim because details of the underlying technology have not been released. Any assessment of its effectiveness would require technical documentation, independent testing and evidence demonstrating how the system performs across different AI models and real-world scenarios.

For now, the statement adds a Pakistani technology-industry perspective to the wider discussion about how artificial intelligence can be developed and used while maintaining meaningful human oversight.
