Lahore: Talks between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have been completed, and a staff-level agreement is expected to be concluded soon.
According to sources, Pakistan’s economic performance, ongoing reforms, and the goals of the IMF program were discussed in detail in the talks. Pakistani officials briefed the IMF delegation on the progress of the program.
Official sources say that the government is continuing to take steps to achieve fiscal targets. Work is also being done to increase revenue and improve the tax collection system.
According to officials, progress is also being made in the privatization program. The government is taking forward the reform process to improve the performance of government institutions and reduce the financial burden on the national exchequer.
The energy sector was also an important topic in the talks. According to sources, steps are being taken to reduce the losses of electricity distribution companies, while attention is also being paid to preventing the increase in circular debt in the gas sector.
After the conclusion of the negotiations, the stage remains for finalizing the staff-level agreement. If the agreement is reached, it will be presented to the IMF Executive Board for approval.
The progress of this agreement is considered important for Pakistan, as the continuous implementation of reforms and financial targets under the IMF program will also play an important role in the future economic policy.
