Karachi: Business on the Pakistan Stock Exchange ended on a positive note on Wednesday, and the benchmark KSE-100 index rose 830.43 points to reach 172,232.51.
The trading day started at 171,843.51 points, while the index reached a high of 172,762.41 points during the trading session. It closed with a total increase of 0.48%.
Due to significant buying in the market, some large stocks played a significant role in pushing the index up. Fatima Fertiliser contributed 167.36 points to the performance of the KSE-100, while United Bank, Meezan Bank, Attock Refinery and Engro Holdings were also among the prominent contributors.
On the other hand, MCB Bank, Pakistan State Oil, K-Electric, Bank Alfalah and National Bank put pressure on the index. The decline in the shares of these companies limited the overall increase to some extent.
The trading volume in the shares related to the KSE-100 index was 274.87 million shares. The overall performance of the index during the current fiscal year was negative by 4.48%, while it declined by 1.05% during the calendar year.
Another key market index, KMI-30, also ended the day on a positive note. The index rose 2,160.35 points, or 0.88 percent to close at 246,825.53 points. The KMI-30 opened at 245,484.20 points and touched a high of 247,244.37 points during the session.
Fatima Fertiliser, Meezan Bank, Attock Refinery, Pakistan Refinery and Engro Holdings were the major contributors to the KMI-30. On the other hand, Nishat Mills, Maple Leaf Cement, DG Khan Cement, Sapphire Textiles and Honda Cars had a negative impact on the index.
The trading volume of the relevant shares of KMI-30 was recorded at 115.50 million shares. The index’s performance for the current fiscal year was negative by 4.08 percent while the decline on a calendar year basis was 0.69 percent.
Overall, the main market indicators increased in Wednesday’s session; however, the mixed trend in stocks of various sectors also continued. Investors’ attention will be focused on the market direction and the performance of large stocks in the upcoming sessions.
