Karachi – Pakistan Stock Exchange saw mixed trend on Thursday. The benchmark KSE-100 index closed at 176,591.76 after falling 254.60 points.
The index kicked off the session at 177,266.90 points. It touched a high of 178,291.37 during trading, while its low was 176,156.56.
The KSE-100 did not perform in a positive way at the close of the day, closing at a loss of 0.14 per cent. The index’s trading volume was around 358.03 million shares.
The KMI-30 index, on the other hand, did a better job. It closed at 249,569.23 points, up 774.72 points or 0.31 percent.
The KMI-30 saw a high of 251,824.48 and a low of 248,612.18 during the session. The volume of trading in the index came to 79.35 million shares.
In the KSE-100, OGDC was the biggest contributor to the index, contributing 116.91 points in the positive direction. ENGRO scored +108.69 points and SAZEW scored +95.66 points. The other major contributors were also MEBL and MARI.
On the other hand, UBL was the biggest detractor of 177.75 points on the index. HUBC scored 86.43 points while BAHL scored 69.63 points. HBL and FATIMA also contributed significantly.
In the KMI-30, OGDC, ENGRO and SAZEW also contributed positively greatly. These three scored 333.64, 330.86 and 273.02 points each.
HUBC was the biggest negative contributor in KMI-30. The index was also put on pressure by EFERT, PSO, MLCF and DGKC.
The latest PSX data shows that KSE-100 index has gained 17.27 percent year-on-year and 1.46 percent from the start of 2018.
Overall, Thursday’s activity saw a significant movement of large stocks in different directions. The KSE-100 index tumbled by some points but some big companies played a role in shielding the index from further pressure.
