Crude oil prices have once again recorded an increase in the global market. Brent crude oil prices rose above $103 per barrel, while US crude oil also remained at a high level with a slight increase.
According to market data, Brent rose $1.14 to $103.73 per barrel. This is a 1.11 percent increase in a session. The price of US West Texas Intermediate also rose 34 cents to $89.72 per barrel.
Geographical and policy-related factors are prominent behind the recent increase in crude oil prices. The market is also keeping a close eye on US policy towards Iran. Investors have been re-examining supply concerns after US President Donald Trump denied any willingness to ease sanctions on Iran.
Oil prices are considered important for the global economy. If crude oil becomes expensive, the energy costs of importing countries can increase. For a country with import needs like Pakistan, a major change in global prices can also affect local fuel prices and import bills.
Brent’s monthly performance also illustrates the current direction of the market. Its price is on track to increase by about 14% this month. If this pace continues, it will be the biggest monthly increase for Brent since July.
The price of US WTI is expected to increase by about 4% on a monthly basis. This difference between the two major global benchmarks reflects the impact of various market factors and supply concerns.
Fluctuations in global crude oil prices in Pakistan are also seen in the context of petroleum product prices. However, local prices are influenced by factors other than global oil, so a one-day change in the global market cannot be seen as an immediate and proportional increase in the local price.
Currently, investors in the global oil market are focused on developments related to Iran, US policy and global supply prospects. Changes in these factors could affect the direction of crude oil prices in the coming days.
