Islamabad: According to petroleum industry sources, the government may reduce petrol prices slightly in the upcoming review, while the prices of diesel and other products may increase significantly.
Sources say that the price of high-speed diesel is expected to increase by Rs 9.60 per liter, which could take the new price to Rs 288.40 per liter. The price of petrol is expected to decrease by Rs 1.96 per liter to Rs 263.49.
Similarly, kerosene oil is likely to become expensive by Rs 8.82 per liter and light diesel oil by Rs 7.15 per liter.
Economic analysts say that the continuous fluctuation in crude oil prices in the global market has made it difficult for the government to maintain balance. According to them, the increase in diesel price will burden the rural economy and the transport sector, while a slight reduction in petrol will provide temporary relief to urban consumers.
Experts further say that if the government does not make tax adjustments, oil prices may increase further in the next review.
