Major financial relief to Pakistan under the program, $1.3 billion transferred to SBP

Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released a new tranche of financial assistance to Pakistan and transferred about $1.3 billion to the State Bank of Pakistan.

According to a statement issued by the central bank, the IMF Executive Board approved the release of SDR 760 million after the completion of the third review of Pakistan’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program on May 8, 2026.

In the same meeting, the IMF also approved the second tranche of SDR 154 million under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
According to the State Bank, a total of SDR 914 million was received on May 12, which amounts to about US $1.3 billion.

The announcement said that these funds will be added to the State Bank’s foreign exchange reserves during the week ending May 15, 2026.
Economic experts say that the new IMF tranche can play an important role in reducing Pakistan’s external financial pressure, managing import payments and improving investor confidence.
