ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has said that it is necessary to activate all constitutional and democratic channels for political stability in the country. According to him, the restoration of contacts between the political leadership and a transparent electoral process can form the basis for positive progress in the future.

Talking to the media, Barrister Gohar said that in the current circumstances, the restoration of meetings with the PTI founder could prove to be an important step forward. He said that if political contacts resume, there could be possibilities of reducing tension and improving the political environment.

He said that free, fair and transparent elections are indispensable for the country’s development and sustainable stability. According to him, it is necessary to strengthen the constitutional process and trust in democratic institutions to resolve political issues.

Regarding terrorism, Barrister Gohar clarified that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf does not support the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He said that indiscriminate action should be taken against every individual involved in terrorism as per the law so that peace and order can be further strengthened in the country.

Terming peaceful protest as a constitutional right of every citizen, he said that law enforcement agencies should take action, keeping in mind the clear distinction between peaceful political activities and other types of matters.

The PTI chairman said that the party meeting to be held in Peshawar on August 5 will be important in determining the upcoming political strategy, where various announcements regarding the future course of action are expected. He also said that he will soon meet Mahmood Khan Achakzai to discuss the current political situation.

Talking about the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, Barrister Gauhar claimed that voter turnout was low due to the PTI’s election boycott. According to him, the party supported the public demands but did not support any anti-state stance.

He further said that the prolonged imprisonment of any popular political leader can affect the political environment. Speaking about Kashmir, he said that the relations between Pakistan and Kashmir are strong historically, geographically and on a public level and will continue to be so in the future.
