Dhaka: A new controversy has arisen in cricket circles ahead of the T20 World Cup, where the Bangladesh Cricket Board has clearly announced that it will not take the risk of sending its team to India.
According to officials, this decision has come after consultations at the government level. Bangladesh Sports Advisor Dr. Asif Nazral said after meeting the players that the current security situation is not satisfactory for the team, hence the decision to go to India will not be changed.
He said that Bangladesh is in favor of the promotion of sports and has a strong desire to participate in the World Cup, but the security of the players is the top priority. According to him, the ICC has been informed of the concerns repeatedly but has not been assured of satisfactory arrangements.
Dr. Nazral said that the board has proposed a hybrid model as an alternative, in which Bangladesh’s matches can be held in another country. In his opinion, Sri Lanka could be the best choice in this regard.
Board Chairman Aminul Islam also took a strong stance and said that he would not back down on the issue. He said that the ICC will be contacted again and Bangladesh’s interests will be defended at all costs.
According to cricket analysts, this situation is a big test for the ICC, because the non-participation of a major team can affect the reputation of the event. If the negotiations are not successful, major changes are possible in the tournament schedule.
Cricket fans are now waiting to see whether the international body accepts Bangladesh’s demands or the matter becomes more complicated.
One thing is clear at present that Bangladesh has decided not to compromise on security and the safety of the team is being given priority over everything.
