Air pollution in Lahore at dangerous levels

Lahore: On Monday morning, Lahore once again joined the world’s most polluted cities, where air quality dropped to dangerous levels. According to the global organization IQ Air, Lahore’s overall Air Quality Index was recorded at 396, which is considered extremely harmful to human health.

According to the report of the Punjab Environment Department, air pollution has increased to an unprecedented level in several areas of Lahore. The AQI was recorded at FF Pakistan One at 790, Civil Secretariat Road at 770, Sanda Road at 718, CERP Office at 641, DHA Phase 8 at 624 and Barki Road at 610.
However, the air quality was slightly better in the Wagah Border area, where the AQI was 176.

In view of the increasing pollution, the Environment Department has banned dry sweeping and has made it mandatory to spray water before washing the highways.

The report further states that pollution coming from the Indian border areas has made the situation of increasing smog more serious, the effects of which are also being seen in other cities of Punjab including Lahore.
