Punjab government announces second phase of free laptop scheme

Lahore: The Punjab government has announced the second phase of the free laptop scheme for students, under which deserving and talented students across the province will be provided with modern laptops. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz will officially inaugurate the scheme in the first or second week of September next month.

According to the Higher Education Department, the distribution of laptops will be completely on the basis of merit, and candidates will have to get biometric verification done at NADRA e-Sahulat centers after submitting data through their institutions.  The last date for applications has been set for September 30, 2025, while the distribution of laptops will be done in phases from November to March 2026.

It should be remembered that in the first phase of the scheme, 14,000 laptops were provided to students of Lahore only, however, in the second phase, this facility has been extended to all districts of the province so that maximum students can benefit from this facility.

According to government sources, this time about 60,000 laptops will be distributed, for which quotas have been allocated according to different institutions and categories.

According to the Punjab government, the laptops provided under this scheme will be equipped with modern specifications including Intel Core i7 13th Generation processors, 8 to 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD storage, and Windows 11. The aim of the initiative is to empower students with digital learning tools and further improve educational standards across the province.
