ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has submitted an important resolution in the National Assembly to protect the water of the Sindh River and defend the rights of Sindh, calling on the federal government and the Punjab government to ensure the water rights of Sindh. The resolution has been unanimously signed by all the members of the Sindh Assembly, which has made the sensitivity and seriousness of the matter clear.
The resolution clearly states that any new canals or projects on the Sindh River would be against the interests of Sindh and could pose serious threats to the agriculture, economy, and environment of the province. The resolution also calls for the full implementation of the 1991 water agreement. To ensure equitable distribution of water.
The resolution also said that Sindh is already suffering from an acute water shortage, and the situation may further deteriorate due to a change in water flow in the upper reaches. The House has taken a clear stand and declared any new diversion plan unacceptable without mutual consultation of the provinces.
The PPP resolution said that the Indus River system is an important national resource for Pakistan’s agriculture, economy, and environment, and for Sindh, the river is a symbol of life. The House warned that any new canal or water project would be considered a move against the rights of the lower river areas and expressed serious concern over the negative impact on the Sindh delta, agriculture, and the environment.
