KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange ended its business on Monday with a positive end to trading, and the benchmark KSE-100 index closed at 163,038.47 points after gaining 663.59 points. Thus, the negative trend that had been going on for the last three trading sessions was broken. The index recorded a 0.41% increase.
The market witnessed volatility during the trading session. Initially, the index fell to 161,250 points due to selling pressure, but later the market recovered significantly due to increased buying. The index reached its highest level during the day at 163,477 points.
According to market data, about 37.60 crore shares were traded in the stock market, with a total value of Rs 16.19 billion. Both trading volume and value were recorded as compared to the previous session.
On the other hand, the total investment value of the market increased by about Rs 46.95 billion to reach Rs 18.06 trillion. However, not all companies saw the same momentum. According to available data, the share prices of 196 companies increased, 251 decreased, and 48 remained unchanged.
Investors also focused on the State Bank’s monetary policy and interest rate decision. Changes in interest rates can affect the borrowing costs of businesses, investments and share prices.
Despite the market recovery, it is premature to consider a one-day rally as a sign of permanent improvement. Investor confidence, economic indicators and regional and global conditions may play an important role in determining the direction of the market in the coming sessions.
