Karachi: The Pakistan Stock Exchange ended the trading week on a negative note, with concerns over interest rate hikes keeping investors cautious. The trading started on a positive note, but later the benchmark index recorded a decline due to selling pressure.
At the end of trading, the KSE-100 index fell 352 points to close at 167,089 points. Investors focused on interest rate comments and economic expectations during the trading session.
A total of 300 million shares were traded during the trading day, worth Rs 14 billion. On the other hand, the total market capitalization of the Pakistan Stock Exchange decreased by Rs 28 billion to Rs 18,569 billion.
Despite the positive start of the market, the negative end shows that investors are cautious about future economic decisions. A possible change in interest rates can affect the borrowing cost of businesses, investments and share prices.
However, the future trend of the market will depend on developments related to monetary policy, inflation data and the country’s economic situation.
