ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has clarified for pensioners that in case the proof of life certificate is not issued during September, the pension of any pensioner will not be stopped.
According to NADRA Public Information Officer Syed Shahab Ali, no such decision has been taken by the government under which the payments of pensioners who have not obtained proof of life certificate from NADRA within the prescribed period should be suspended.
He said that NADRA is facilitating the issuance of proof of life certificate to retired employees in collaboration with the relevant institutions. The aim of this step is to facilitate the necessary pension-related procedures, especially for senior citizens.
According to NADRA, if a pensioner’s certificate could not be issued in September, then the payment of pension will not be stopped on this basis alone. This clarification will also apply to retired employees of the armed forces as well as pensioners associated with federal and provincial government institutions.
Retired employees whose respective institutions have not yet completed arrangements with NADRA for issuance of proof of life certificates will also not be affected by this decision.
NADRA officials clarified that non-issuance of the certificate within the stipulated period will not be the sole reason for discontinuation of pension. The main objective of the ongoing facility for pensioners is to simplify the verification process and save senior citizens from having to visit various government offices repeatedly.
