ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is targeting exports of $100 billion by 2035 as part of its plan to build a $1 trillion economy and reduce dependence on external financing.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said sustained export growth would be essential for greater economic self-reliance.
The government is also looking to use construction and real estate as wider engines of economic activity, with officials highlighting their links to dozens of allied industries.
Pakistan faces a major housing shortage, with annual demand estimated at around 700,000 units compared with supply of about 250,000.
Under the proposed housing framework, the government wants to facilitate the construction of 300,000 to 400,000 housing units each year.
Officials are also considering digital land records, one-window construction approvals and improved systems for property transactions.
The government believes the construction sector can contribute beyond domestic demand by creating export opportunities for Pakistani companies and skilled workers.
Iqbal stressed that policy continuity, private-sector participation and modern production methods will be important for achieving long-term economic targets.
