The use of Chinese agricultural technology has significantly increased the income of some farmers in Pakistan. There has been an example of increasing the income per acre from less than $300 to about $900 through modern hybrid chilli and crop drying technology.
This development came to light during the 12th International Urban Modern Agriculture Expo held in Chengdu, China. Pakistan’s Consul General in Chengdu, Tanveer Ahmed Bhatti, highlighted the growing agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China in his address to the event.
According to him, modern technology has not only helped in improving crop production but has also created better income opportunities for farmers. Hybrid chilli varieties and modern drying machinery are prominent examples of this cooperation.
The importance of this experience for Pakistan’s agriculture sector is high because farmers’ income is not only linked to production but also to crop quality, reduction in wastage and market access. Modern equipment and improved procedures can make a difference at these stages.
The scope of cooperation between Pakistan and China is also expanding to rice and other crops. According to available data, during the first seven months of 2026, Pakistan’s rice exports to China increased by more than 200 percent year-on-year, while sesame exports also recorded a 72 percent increase.
Along with the transfer of agricultural technology, training of Pakistani experts is also ongoing. As of March 2026, 885 Pakistani agricultural experts had completed training in modern agricultural practices in China. The aim of this training is to apply the acquired skills in Pakistan’s agriculture sector.
However, access to small farmers is of fundamental importance for the widespread use of modern technology. Expensive machinery, limited financial resources and lack of technical training can be obstacles in many areas.
The next step for Pakistan to benefit from the Chinese experience is to adapt the technology to local needs, train farmers and better link production to markets. This process can improve not only production in the agricultural sector but also the real income and export potential of farmers.
