Lahore: Progress is underway on projects for new medical colleges, hospitals and specialized medical institutions to expand the scope of medical facilities in Punjab.Â
A meeting held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reviewed various projects and approved the establishment of a medical college and teaching hospital in Mianwali.
The meeting also directed to complete the ongoing projects within the stipulated time.
The meeting decided to establish Kulsoom Nawaz Cancer Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan. In addition, a briefing was given on the project to build a 268-bed Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz Institute of Cardiology in Gujranwala.
These projects are related to the provision of treatment facilities in different areas.
The officials also presented a report on the project of a medical college in Layyah. The meeting reviewed the projects related to Nawaz Sharif Medical District, Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research Center and heart diseases in Sargodha.
The aim of these projects is to expand treatment and diagnostic facilities in various medical fields.
According to the briefing, several specialized medical institutions will be established in the Nawaz Sharif Medical District. These will include institutions for infections, diseases, plastic surgery, genetics, general surgery and orthopedics.Â
Along with this, Children’s Hospital II for the treatment of children and Institute of Ophthalmology for eye diseases will also be part of the project.
The proposed medical facilities include Al-Shifa Eye Trust Hospital and a 100-bed general hospital. The establishment of these institutions is planned to provide treatment facilities in various fields.
The importance of these health projects is also in the sense that patients may need to go out of their city for specialized treatment.
However, when and to what extent these projects will practically benefit the public depends on the completion of construction work, provision of medical equipment and deployment of staff.
