Islamabad: Under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme, steps have been directed to expedite steps to resolve the registration issues faced by owners of Ching Chi rickshaws and loaders.
This decision was taken in a review meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema in Islamabad. The meeting was attended by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik, Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State for Finance and representatives of provincial governments, including relevant institutions.
The meeting was informed that more than 5 million people have been registered across the country under the fuel relief scheme while fuel tokens are also being issued. According to officials, registration and other administrative issues have been resolved at most petrol pumps.
Representatives of provincial governments said that unregistered rickshaws and loaders are facing difficulties in joining the scheme due to lack of excise registration. The provinces have started the process of registering rickshaws, and after the registration is completed, eligible rickshaws will be included in the fuel relief scheme.
Ahad Cheema directed that the owners of eligible rickshaws and loaders should not be deprived of relief due to registration hurdles. He is also directed to activate the portal for complaints related to registration and tokens soon.
According to officials of the Ministry of IT and Pakistan Digital Authority, issues related to excise registration and token payment will also be included in the complaint system. This will provide a formal mechanism for consumers to register their complaints.
The meeting also reviewed the status of payments to petrol pumps. Officials said that most of the payments have been completed, while according to the State Bank, the issues related to pending payments are expected to be resolved in one to two days.
Attaullah Tarar said that steps are being taken to create public awareness about the scheme. The meeting was also informed that improvements are being made to the system based on the information received from the visits of petrol pumps in their constituencies by the members of parliament and the review of the scheme.
Ahad Cheema said that real-time data updates will be kept about the scheme and efforts will continue to resolve practical issues including registration, in a timely manner.
