Open Market Currency Rates Today in Pakistan – PKR Exchange Rates

September 14, 2026

The interbank market is being closely watched by businesses and financial institutions. Import costs, external payments and other business transactions are being affected by changes in this rate.

Dollar Rate in Open Market

In the open market, the US dollar is being offered at Rs 278.05 for buying, while the selling rate is being recorded at Rs 278.55.

A small difference between the two markets is being observed, suggesting relatively stable currency market conditions. However, exchange rates are being changed during the day, and variations may be seen among different exchange companies.

Factors Affecting the Rupee

The value of the Pakistani rupee is being influenced by several factors. Import payments, external debt servicing and global dollar movements are being considered important influences.

An important role is also being played by foreign exchange inflows. The supply of dollars in the domestic market is being affected by remittances, exports and external financing.

Pressure on the rupee can be increased by a rise in import demand. Exchange rates may also be affected when demand for foreign currency is being increased.

Impact on Import Costs

The dollar rate is being closely monitored by Pakistan’s import sector. Many imported goods and raw materials are being priced in foreign currency.

Machinery, energy products and industrial inputs are also being affected by currency movements. The cost of these imports can be increased when the rupee is being weakened.

Greater certainty is being provided to businesses by a stable rupee. Import payments can be planned and costs can be estimated more easily under stable currency conditions.

Impact on Overseas Pakistanis

The dollar rate is also being closely followed by overseas Pakistanis. More rupees are being received when foreign currency is gaining value against the rupee.

The rupee value of remittances sent to families in Pakistan can be increased by a stronger dollar. However, the benefit of a weaker rupee can be reduced by higher inflation.

For this reason, the dollar rate is being viewed as only one part of the wider economic picture. Inflation, household costs and overall economic conditions are also being considered important.

Remittances and Foreign Exchange

Remittances are being treated as an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan. The country’s external account is being supported by money sent by overseas Pakistanis.

Foreign exchange availability is also being strengthened by these inflows. Import payments and market liquidity can be supported when higher remittance inflows are being recorded.

The encouragement of remittances through legal banking and exchange channels is therefore being considered important for currency market stability.

What Could Happen Next?

The future direction of the rupee is being determined by several economic factors. Export performance, remittances and import demand are expected to remain important.

Foreign exchange conditions are also being influenced by external financing and debt payments. Global economic developments may affect the dollar as well.

If foreign exchange inflows remain stable, relative stability in the rupee may be maintained. However, currency rates can change quickly when market conditions are being shifted.

US Dollar Rate Today

According to the latest available rates, the dollar is being traded at:

  • Interbank buying: Rs 277.25
  • Interbank selling: Rs 277.75
  • Open market buying: Rs 278.05
  • Open market selling: Rs 278.55

Note: Exchange rates may be varying slightly between different exchange companies. The rates may also be changing during the trading day. Consumers, businesses and overseas Pakistanis are therefore being advised to check the latest market rates before making currency-related transactions. Daily changes are also being assessed alongside inflation, trade figures and other economic indicators.
