Islamabad: The federal government has appointed Major General Faisal Naseer as the National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA), after which he will assume important responsibilities in the national-level coordination of the country’s counter-terrorism.
According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division, Major General Faisal Naseer has been appointed for a period of three years. He has been entrusted with this responsibility on deputation under Section 9(1) of the NACTA Act, 2013, and the appointment will be effective immediately.
Major General Faisal Naseer belongs to the Pakistan Army. He is a holder of Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) and the Medal of Honour. His professional experience has also included responsibilities related to security, counter-terrorism and counter-terrorism operations.
NACTA’s primary function is to bring together the efforts of various agencies in the country to combat terrorism and extremism under a coherent system. The authority also works to improve the exchange of information and cooperation between federal and provincial agencies.
As the National Coordinator, Major General Faisal Naseer will also be responsible for strengthening coordination between different agencies and supporting the implementation of the national policy and strategy related to counter-terrorism.
This appointment comes at a time when the country is facing various security challenges. Due to terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the operations and mutual coordination of law enforcement agencies have assumed continuous importance.
Improved cooperation between federal and provincial agencies through the NACTA platform is one of the key responsibilities of this position. As the terrorist threats are constantly changing, timely exchange of information between different agencies is also considered important.
