Karachi: The political debate on the issue of new provinces and administrative units has once again intensified in the Sindh Assembly. The government and the opposition raised questions of each other’s stance in the house and presented different views on the administrative structure of Sindh.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah made it clear that the PPP will not support the division of Sindh. He said that there should be no room for any ambiguity on the issue of the unity of the province.

Murad Ali Shah also criticised the opposition’s stance. He said that some constituencies oppose the division of Sindh but also talk about creating administrative units. According to the Chief Minister, the stance of political parties will be further clarified from the assembly debate.

He also referred to the political history of Sindh and said that the province played an important role in the establishment of Pakistan. He also criticised the past experience of one unit.

On the other hand, opposition leader Ali Khorshidi accused the government of using the sensitive issue for political debate. According to him, MQM-P is not in favour of the division of Sindh, but rather the transfer of administrative units and powers to the lower levels.

Khorshidi said that the people of Sindh have the right to know who stands on the issue of the division of the province. He also called the administrative issues of the province an important part of the political debate.

PPP leader Faryal Talpur also opposed the division of Sindh and said that her party stands for the unity of the province. She also mentioned the development work done in Sindh.

It is clear from the recent debate in the Sindh Assembly that the issue of new provinces and administrative units has become a sensitive political issue. The government is emphasizing on maintaining the current geographical unity of Sindh, while the opposition is highlighting the need for administrative powers and better governance at the local level.
