Lahore: The government has slightly increased the price of petrol while reducing the price of high-speed diesel. The new prices will be effective from tonight.
According to a notification issued by OGRA, the price of petrol has been increased by 77 paise per litre. After this increase, the new price of petrol has been fixed at 342 rupees 79 paise per litre.
On the other hand, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced by one rupee and 3 paise per litre. After the reduction, the new price of diesel will be 370 rupees 41 paise per litre.
The new prices will be applicable from 12 midnight on September 1, 2026.
The increase in the price of petrol will have a direct impact on consumers using motorcycles, cars and rickshaws. In addition, the change in the price of fuel may also affect transport costs.
The reduction in the price of diesel has created scope for a slight reduction in the costs of freight vehicles, buses and other heavy transport. However, the overall impact will also depend on other costs and global oil prices.
In Pakistan, the prices of petroleum products are revised based on global market rates, import costs, taxes and other relevant factors. Under the current system, OGRA sets prices according to changes in the global market.
After the new rates, there has been a slight change in the prices of petrol and diesel for consumers in different directions. The increase in petrol price will put some pressure on the daily travel expenses of citizens, while the decrease in diesel price may provide limited relief to commercial transport.
