Islamabad: In a positive development for inflation-hit consumers, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a significant reduction in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The new prices will be applicable from July 1, which is expected to provide relief to both domestic and commercial consumers.

According to a notification issued by OGRA, the price of LPG per kilogram has been reduced by Rs 67.33. Following this decision, the new official price of LPG has been fixed at Rs 241.43 per kilogram.

The impact of the price reduction will also be noticeable on domestic consumers. The price of an 11.8-kg domestic LPG cylinder has been reduced by Rs 794.5, after which its new price has been fixed at Rs 2,848.91.

According to experts, this reduction in the price of LPG is welcome for millions of households that use LPG instead of natural gas for cooking and other domestic needs. Especially in rural areas and cities where gas supply is limited or non-existent, this decision can directly lead to a reduction in monthly expenses of consumers.

Analysts say that changes in LPG prices are usually made taking into account the prices of liquefied gas in the global market, import costs, the value of the US dollar and other relevant factors. If the global price trend remains stable, consumers can also benefit from relatively better rates in the coming months.

Business circles say that the reduction in prices will also reduce the operating costs of small hotels, restaurants, bakeries and other businesses that rely on LPG, which is also likely to have a positive impact on the prices of some food items.

OGRA has clarified that the new prices will be applicable only for July 2026, and all authorised distributors and marketing companies will be obliged to sell LPG according to these official rates.
