Rubio Appreciates Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts on Iran During Meeting with Ishaq Dar

In Washington, US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in which bilateral relations, the regional situation and diplomatic developments related to Iran were discussed in detail.

According to the US State Department, Marco Rubio appreciated Pakistan’s “constructive and sincere diplomatic efforts” to reduce tensions between Iran and the US. The meeting took place at a time when Islamabad is mobilizing diplomatic contacts for peace and stability in the region.

During the meeting, the two leaders expressed their determination to further strengthen relations between Pakistan and the US and agreed to increase cooperation in various areas, including trade, investment, security and counter-terrorism.

Marco Rubio expressed his regret over the recent terrorist attack in Quetta and also offered his condolences to the families of the victims. It may be recalled that several people were killed and injured in a suicide attack on Sunday.

According to the Foreign Office, the two countries agreed to continue high-level contacts and advance partnership based on common interests. The meeting also discussed regional peace, the global situation and the ongoing diplomatic developments in the Middle East.

Ishaq Dar had attended UN-related meetings in New York before arriving in Washington. According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan is playing an active role in reducing tensions in the region and promoting dialogue.
