Islamabad: The government has announced new measures to make the distribution of subsidy provided to electricity consumers transparent and systematic, under which the details of subsidy will be clearly recorded on electricity bills, while the registration process for consumers through QR code is also being introduced.
According to the Ministry of Energy, distribution companies have been instructed to show on electricity bills how much amount was provided to the respective consumer as government subsidy. Officials say that the aim of this move is to increase transparency in the subsidy system and ensure effective provision of relief to deserving consumers.
The Power Division statement said that after scanning the QR code on the bill, consumers will have to complete registration through an online link.
According to officials, the aim of this process is to accurately identify low-income and low-power domestic consumers so that the scope of the subsidy is limited to the real beneficiaries.
The Ministry of Energy clarified that it is not correct to link this move with the abolition of subsidies.
According to the statement, the government is determined to provide relief to the poor and middle class and the aim of the new system is only to ensure better use of resources.
Officials have advised consumers to complete their registration as soon as possible through the QR code on their electricity bills, while in case of any technical issue or error, the helpline of the concerned electricity company can be contacted.
