ISLAMABAD – In a move reflecting heightened administrative or security protocols, the federal government has officially directed all employees of ministries, divisions, and federal agencies located within Islamabad’s high-security Red Zone to work from home on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
The directive was formalized through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division late Tuesday. The order applies to all federal government establishments situated within the perimeter of the Red Zone, an area that houses the country’s most sensitive installations, including the Prime Minister’s House, the Presidency, and the Parliament House.
While the notification did not explicitly state the reason for the sudden shift to remote work, it emphasized that the arrangement is temporary. “All officers and secretarial staff shall remain at the station and be prepared to attend office when required at short notice,” the Cabinet Division added, ensuring that government operations remain responsive despite the physical closure of offices.
This directive comes amid a flurry of high-level diplomatic activity in the capital, with international delegations expected to visit. Security in the capital has already been significantly beefed up, with containers and law enforcement personnel stationed at key entry and exit points of the Red Zone.
