Lahore – The Meteorological Department has predicted a new and powerful series of rains across the country from March 24 to March 31, due to which there is a possibility of strong winds and hailstorm in many areas.

This series of westerly winds will enter from the southwestern parts of Balochistan on Sunday (March 24) and will intensify further from the night of March 27.

According to experts, this series will continue till the end of the month, which will reduce the recent heat wave but there is also a risk of damage to standing crops.

Cloudy weather is expected in the coastal areas of Balochistan including Gwadar, Pasni and Turbat, Kalat, Ziarat, Chaman and Loralai, while intermittent rain with thunder is also expected in the upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad and Peshawar. Rain with strong winds has been predicted in the plains and upper areas of Punjab including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sialkot, while heavy hail (Olay) may also occur at a few places in Murree, Galiat and the twin cities (Islamabad and Rawalpindi).

Dusty winds and rain are also expected in the districts of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar and Layyah in southern Punjab. The Meteorological Department has directed all concerned agencies to remain alert, especially in the hilly areas, and to take precautionary measures to avoid possible damage due to landslides and windstorms in the plains.
