Dhaka: The process of restoring air connectivity between Pakistan and Bangladesh has taken practical form, with Biman Airlines’ first flight to Karachi scheduled to depart on January 29.
According to sources, it has been decided to operate two flights weekly on this route, while the booking of flights from Dhaka to Karachi has witnessed extraordinary interest from passengers as soon as the bookings started.
Travel agencies say that all the seats on the initial flights were fully booked within a few hours, reflecting the long-awaited need for direct flights between the two countries.
It may be recalled that the Civil Aviation Authority had recently allowed Biman Air to operate direct flights, while progress has also been made on cargo cooperation between the national airlines of the two countries.
According to experts, the restoration of air connectivity is a positive step towards promoting regional connectivity in South Asia, which will gradually improve tourism, trade and people-to-people contacts.
