Karachi: Introducing a major digital transformation in the civil services sector, the Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) mobile app has been launched in Sindh. Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, while inaugurating it, said that this initiative is the beginning of providing easy, fast and transparent civil record services in the province.
Through the app, citizens will be able to register births, deaths, marriages and divorces from home, while paper files, queues and unnecessary delays are being completely eliminated. This system is being described as an important component of Sindh’s digital governance framework.
According to officials, the eCRVS system, which will be developed with a budget of Rs 471.254 million, will connect 30 districts and 769 health centers of the province, which will update the records of 85 percent of births in government and private hospitals in real time.
The Chief Minister said that the Sindh cabinet has already digitized all meetings, while in the next phase, domicile, health cards, licensing and e-payments will also be linked to the same platform. He admitted that the main reason for the decline in registration was the payment of NADRA fees, so the provincial government will now pay this fee itself so that no family is left out of the system.
Governance and technology experts say that CRMS will prove to be a strong tool for data-based decision-making for the government. According to them, instant birth data will help in better planning of children’s schooling, immunization and disease control programs, especially in screening for diseases like thalassemia.
