Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the reform efforts of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) have significantly improved transparency and efficiency in the tax system.

He said that the collection of 5.9 million tax returns and the registration of 900,000 new filers are proof that the public is trusting the government’s policies.

The Prime Minister said that the government has promoted a merit and performance culture in the FBR, as a result of which a significant improvement has been seen in the performance of the institution.

He said that the automated clearance system at ports helped in eliminating corruption and made the business environment more transparent.

According to Shahbaz Sharif, the increase in the point of sale network played a significant role in preventing sales tax evasion, while the increase in tax revenue by Rs9 billion is a clear sign of the success of the government’s policies.

He added that the process of modernizing the FBR system is ongoing so that the country’s economy can be built on stronger foundations.
