Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that there has been a significant increase in the number of people filing income tax returns in the year 2025. According to the released data, a total of 5.9 million people filed their returns across the country as of October 31, 2025, which shows a 17.6 percent increase compared to 5 million filers last year.
According to the FBR, more than 3.6 million taxpayers also paid taxes along with their returns, which is about 18.6 percent more than last year. The agency also said that individual taxpayers have deposited Rs9 billion more tax this year — up from Rs60 billion last year, reaching Rs69 billion.
The announcement said that no general extension has been given to the last date for filing returns; as per the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, returns will be received only by the stipulated time i.e. the last night of October 31.
However, the FBR clarified that taxpayers facing any kind of difficulties can approach their respective field formations and apply for an extension.
The FBR has further expressed its expectation that the filing of returns will continue till 12 midnight, and this number is likely to increase further.
