LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has finalized an ambitious plan for a new expressway project connecting Arfa Karim Tower to Pine Avenue, Raiwind, which aims to reduce congestion and improve connectivity in south Lahore.

According to Chief Engineer LDA Israr Saeed, the PC-1 of the project has been completed and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) has been sought from the concerned authorities. The estimated cost of the project is over Rs9 billion, reflecting its large-scale infrastructure scope.

Officials say the expressway has been designed as an eco-friendly, three-lane dual carriageway, based on the successful road structure of the Lahore Orange Line (LOS). The first phase of the project will extend from Arfa Karim Tower to Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, with future phases to be planned towards Pine Avenue.

A topographic survey has already been completed, ensuring smooth alignment for future construction. Once operational, the new expressway will serve as an alternative route to Kalma Chowk, reducing daily congestion and benefiting millions of commuters travelling to and from South Lahore.

LDA officials believe that the project will not only enhance urban mobility but also boost economic activity by improving the road infrastructure on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
