Karachi: According to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), a total of 3,01,498 vehicles were sold in the country in the first two months of the current fiscal year, which is a significant increase compared to the same period last year.
According to the data, passenger car sales in July and August were 17,127 units, while the number of light commercial vehicles, jeeps and vans was 7,901. Sales of electric cars also came to the fore, which was 65 units.
According to engine capacity, the largest share in sales was of vehicles with engines less than 1000 cc, which were 7,126 units, while 783 of 1000 cc and 9,218 of more than 1300 cc were sold.
In commercial vehicles, 913 trucks, 127 buses and 2,191 tractors were sold. In addition, 5,639 three-wheelers (chingchi and rickshaws) also came into the market.
The motorcycle sector also saw a significant increase, where 2,66,962 motorcycles were sold in two months, including 573 electric motorcycles.
Experts say that this strong performance of the auto industry reflects the improvement in the country’s economy and increasing consumer spending, however, sales of electric vehicles are still at a limited level.
