According to the PTA, 95 per cent of mobile phones used in the country are now being manufactured locally, including 68 per cent of smartphones. The report said that local mobile manufacturing not only reduced the import bill but also created new employment opportunities.

Regarding cybersecurity, the report said that Pakistan’s position in the global ranking has further improved, while consumer protection measures have resulted in a 13 per cent reduction in complaints.

In the report, the PTA reiterated its commitment to launching 5G and promoting the digital economy, saying that special attention will be paid to improving policy and infrastructure in the future.

According to digital policy experts, local mobile manufacturing and network expansion are leading Pakistan towards digital self-sufficiency. They say that the launch of 5G is expected to lead to significant growth in the IT, fintech and e-commerce sectors.
