Karachi: Overseas Pakistanis sent home a record $40.8 billion in 2025, providing strong support to Pakistan’s economy, which is considered the highest annual remittance in the country’s history.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan, the volume of remittances during December 2025 was $3.58 billion, which shows the confidence of overseas Pakistanis in the last month of the year.

Country-wise details

According to State Bank data:

  • From Saudi Arabia: $810 million
  • From the United Arab Emirates: $720 million
  • From the United Kingdom: $560 million
  • From European countries: $490 million

These figures show that Pakistanis living in the Middle East and Europe are continuously playing an important role in the economy of the homeland.

According to economists, this increase in remittances is very important for Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, the value of the rupee and financial stability.

Experts say that remittances:

  • Reduce pressure on the rupee
  • Helps manage the import bill
  • Improves public purchasing power
  • Increases liquidity in the banking system

According to experts, the government should formulate a better policy to use remittances in productive sectors so that this money is not only spent but also converted into investment.

The record volume of remittances in 2025 is a promising economic signal for Pakistan; however, continuation of economic reforms is being called essential for sustained improvement
