LAHORE: The colors of Basant are going to spread again in Punjab, as the provincial government has given formal approval to celebrate Basant on February 6, 7 and 8. This time, the festival, which is making a comeback after a long time, will be celebrated in a more organized and safe environment.
According to reliable government sources, a new security and regulation framework has been created for the preparations for Basant. All kites and strings will be sold with QR codes to prevent the use of prohibited materials. The administration says that no one will be allowed to shoot, use dangerous strings or make noise.
Officials say that with the revival of Basant, the safety of citizens is the top priority, which is why fines and imprisonment will also be imposed in case of violation. In addition, the government has also clarified that people below the age of 18 cannot fly kites and the responsibility for the violation will lie with the parents or guardians.
The Punjab government had issued a Basant ordinance a few days ago, lifting the ban on kite flying, which has been hailed by citizens as a revival of the ancient traditional festival.
Amid the three-day Basant festival, the administration has appealed to citizens for cooperation, saying that the festival will be successful only if it is celebrated safely, responsibly and in accordance with the law.
