Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a severe heatwave warning for most parts of the country, spanning from May 15 to May 20. Temperatures are expected to rise several degrees above normal during this period.
According to PMD officials, the heatwave will severely impact various districts of Punjab, Sindh, and southern Balochistan, where temperatures may exceed 44°C (111°F).
Authorities have urged the public to adopt the following safety measures:
- Avoid exposure to sunlight from 11 AM to 4 PM
- Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
- Refrain from going outdoors unnecessarily
- Use blinds or curtains on windows to reduce indoor heat
- Watch for signs of heatstroke such as dizziness, fever, and lack of sweating
Medical experts have warned that the heatwave could pose serious health risks, especially for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers. Emergency alerts have been issued to hospitals across the affected regions.
Government departments have appealed to the public to share this advisory and to take special care of vulnerable individuals nearby.
