Major progress towards digital revolution in Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s address

Islamabad: Addressing the Digital Foreign Direct Investment (DFDI) Conference, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his commitment to make Pakistan the leader of the global digital economy. He announced that $700 million in foreign investment has been made in the IT sector in Pakistan, which will help in highlighting the potential of the country’s youth and building the economy on modern lines.

We are not just building a digital economy but a digital Pakistan. He informed that the government is setting up IT parks, incubation centers, and R&D centers at the federal and provincial levels. To equip the youth with modern technology.

In a major announcement, the Prime Minister announced a partnership with Chinese technology company Huawei, under which 200,000 Pakistani youth will be trained in digital skills annually. He added that in March 2025, Pakistan received record remittances of $4.1 billion, which is a manifestation of trust in the country at the global level.

Speaking at the conference, Minister for IT and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that IT exports have increased by 25 percent in the first nine months of the current fiscal year. He said that Pakistan has trained more than 3 lakh youth in IT skills this year.

Dima Alehi, Secretary General of the Digital Cooperation Organization, hailed Pakistan’s digital development, saying that with 142 million broadband subscribers and a 65 percent smartphone usage rate, Pakistan is poised for digital development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited global investors to invest in Pakistan and play their role in making the country a leader in the digital economy. “Let us all together make Pakistan the shining star of the digital age.
