KSE-100 index closes up 546 points

Karachi: The positive trend continued on the last trading day of the week at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), and both the major indices managed to record gains due to limited buying by investors.

The KSE-100 index, which is being used as a measure of the overall performance of the market, opened at 176,405.33 on the official market, according to official data. The trading range of the index was 177,108.67 points to a low of 175,934.99 points. The index ended at 176,094.12 points, up 546.13 points, or 0.31%, from the same time yesterday.

The volume of the selected stocks in the index that were traded on the market was 210.43 million shares. The index declined by 2.33% during the fiscal year to date (FYTD) while it increased by 1.17% during the calendar year (CYTD).

Engro, HBL, Lucky Cement, Bank Alfalah and Askari Bank have positive contribution on KSE-100 index whereas Effet, UBL, Habib Metro Bank, JVDC and Maple Leaf Cement have negative contribution on KSE-100 index.

In contrast, the KMI-30 index started at 248,196.56 and achieved a high of 248,981.52 and a low of 246,959.86 during the trading day. At the close of trading, the index closed at 247,198.06 points, up 628.83 points, or 0.26%.

The number of shares traded in the selected stocks of KMI-30 was 71.10 million. The index has decreased by 3.94% from the start of the financial year and by 0.54% from the start of the calendar year.

Engro, Lucky Cement, Meezan Bank, Pakistan Refinery and Pakistan Petroleum were prominent positive stocks in this index, while Effet, Maple Leaf Cement, Attock Refinery, Mari Energies and Hub Power exerted negative pressure on the overall performance of the index.

Investor confidence held steady overall at the end of the trading week but differed drastically among companies as they were bought and sold in different industries, according to market data.
