Islamabad: Pakistan has not only defended its missile programme while rejecting the allegations made in the US intelligence report but has also raised questions about India’s long-range missiles.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said that Pakistan’s missile program is for peace and stability in the region and its range does not reach the intercontinental level.

He termed India’s missiles with a range of more than 12,000 kilometres as a concern for the region and said that such weapons can create imbalance in the region.

This reaction came after the report in which Tulsi Gabbard, while briefing the US Senate Intelligence Committee, had described Pakistan, China, Russia, North Korea and Iran as threats to the US.

The report also claimed that Pakistan is allegedly developing missiles that can reach the US; however, Pakistan has termed these allegations as baseless.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson said that for peace in the region, it is necessary for world powers to adopt a balanced stance and make factual statements.

Pakistan has made it clear that its defence strategy is only for the protection of its interests and regional stability.
