Nepra hearing completed; Rs23 billion relief expected on September bills due to reduction in electricity prices

Islamabad: The Nepra Authority has completed the hearing on the July fuel price adjustment on the request of the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA). The decision will be issued in an official notification after examining the data.

According to sources, the price reduction will be applicable to all discos, including K-Electric, and this measure will provide relief of about Rs 23 billion in September bills.

Nepra officials said that the government has recommended a reduction of Rs 1.69 per unit for July. The application of this reduction will be limited to one month only. The Ministry of Energy also informed Nepra of the ECC decision through a letter.

During the hearing, Nepra member Rafiq Sheikh expressed serious concerns over electrical accidents and said that 11 precious lives were lost in July, out of which 6 deaths were reported in the IESCO region. He said, “It is sad that so many accidents occurred despite the underground system.”
