Islamabad: A document released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has revealed that there is a clear difference in the prices of flour in different cities of the country, where Karachi is the most expensive while Lahore has emerged as the cheapest city.
According to the document, a 20-kilogram bag of flour is being sold for up to Rs 2,500 in Karachi, while its price in Quetta is recorded at Rs 2,450 and in Hyderabad at Rs 2,440. A bag of flour in Islamabad has reached Rs 2,373 while in Peshawar it has reached Rs 2,350.
Similarly, flour is being sold for Rs 2,300 in Bannu and Khuzdar, Rs 2,347 in Rawalpindi, Rs 2,250 in Faisalabad, and up to Rs 2,200 in Sukkur and Larkana.
According to the report, a bag of flour is available for Rs 2,133 in Gujranwala, Multan and Sialkot, while it is available for Rs 2,067 in Bahawalpur. The price in Sargodha is relatively low, up to Rs 2,000; however, the lowest price of Rs 1,810 has been recorded in Lahore.
Experts say that this difference in prices in different cities is coming out on the basis of supply chain, transport cost and local supply and demand; however, overall, the trend of increasing flour prices across the country continues, which is causing public concern.
