Islamabad: It has been informed in a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation that the beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) will have to pay bank charges of Rs 100 to 200 while withdrawing their money in the future.

BISP officials informed the committee that the target of opening 10 million bank accounts has been completed in just four months on the instructions of the Prime Minister. These accounts are currently inactive, however, as soon as the users receive their payments, they will be activated immediately.

According to the Deputy Governor of the State Bank, BISP customers will now be able to withdraw money from any bank and their accounts will also have access to normal banking facilities such as depositing money and receiving remittances.

The Chairperson BISP admitted that digital payments are the biggest challenge for women customers. Currently, six banks are associated with the program, while steps are underway to bring all banks on the One Link system so that transactions can be made with any bank.
