Anti-Terrorism Amendment Bill 2025 implemented, President Asif Zardari signs

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Anti-Terrorism Amendment Bill 2025 into law. The law has come into effect immediately and provides new powers to the security agencies.

The amendment bill aims to timely combat the growing threats of terrorism and increase the capacity of the institutions. Measures such as transparency and judicial oversight have been included in the bill to ensure public rights and accountability.

Under the new law, suspects can be arrested in advance in view of national security concerns, while systematic investigations will be further strengthened through joint investigation teams. In addition, the military and civil institutions have also been given the authority to legally detain suspects.

Importantly, a three-year sunset clause has been included in this law so that it is not permanent and can be extended after re-approval by Parliament if necessary.
