Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the rains and flood situation have caused severe hardship to thousands of families and there have been large-scale financial and human losses. He said that the state and the Pakistan Army are standing with the victims and the relief operation is going on with full force.
He announced that flood-affected domestic consumers will not have to pay electricity bills for August 2025 as the federal government will bear this amount from its own resources. According to the Prime Minister, helping the flood victims is the first responsibility of the government.
PM Shahbaz Sharif said that the losses of commercial and industrial consumers are being assessed, and instructions have been issued to the electricity distribution companies to postpone the bills for August. He indicated that if the estimate of these losses turns out to be higher, additional relief will also be provided.
The Prime Minister said that the people of the affected areas are bearing hardships under the open sky, and the government is standing with them. This relief package is a small effort to ease their burden.
Furthermore, he vowed that the government and institutions will continue to cooperate with the victims until they return home and all resources will be utilized.
